<p>Batalló núm. 16 de les Brigades Internacionals i a partir de desembre de 1937 el núm. 57 de l'Exèrcit Popular. El seu nom prové de la nacionalitat dels seus homes, essencialment anglesos, gal•lesos, escocesos, irlandesos, xipriotes, autralians i jamaicans.&nbsp;<br>Shapurji Saklatvala (Bombay, 28/3/1874 – 16/1/1936). Polític britànic de la comunitat Parsi. Tercer membre del parlament d’origen indi de la Càmera dels Comuns del Regne Unit. Participà en la fundació del Partit Comunista de Gran Bretanya. Amb el recolzament dels laboristes va se escollit membre del Parlament pel Partit Comunista al districte electoral de Battersea el 1922.<br><a href="http://sidbrint/ca/node/12505" target="_blank">Castells</a> indica que el nom de Radford apareix en un article de&nbsp;<em>La Vanguardia</em>, de Barcelona, del 6/11/1938, signat per I. Corbinos, on se’l considera el primer batalló britànic, i en aquest cas es tractaria del British.</p><p>El Batalló Britànic, enquadrat a la XIV Brigada Internacional (31/1/1937 - 23/9/1938) estava format per:</p><ul><li>Primera companyia de Metralladores.
